TRONtiumFREE!
This is a version of the classic TRON game, in which you control a TRON light bike with the cursor keys, which leaves behind a trail... you must avoid all trails to prevent dying. The version has good graphics and sound support.

No source, and you run as root? What do you think this is? Windows? I hate the mess of libraries most linux games need too, but the only way I run something as root is if I have access the source or maybe if the originator is high profile enough to track down legally (and that's a big maybe).
If you can truly write efficient hardware level code that can access ALL possible hareware configurations and behave, then release that as an opensource server process that runs as root (like X). Then release your closed source game as a client program.
*OR* I'll run your program as root on my box if you run a closed source program that I write as root on your box. You go first. You trust me? >8-)

Lame. No source code. SVGA (uck!),
Get glTron instead...same game premise
but about a million times better.

Low level code was fine in the 19[7/8]s when computers ran at 2mzh or less with 64k ram max and flopy drives at best.
When exiting a program ment turnning the computer off and loading a new program ment inserting a diffrent floppy disk there isn't much chance of a virus or worse.
But todays computers are far more powerful. Programs share a commen space on a hard disk and systems are hundreds of times faster and systems have uptimes mesured in days, or months instead of hours or minuts. No more shutting down when your done with a program.
So yes we worry about giving random code secure access to the system.
More than that... Linux and Unix do not run on a single set of chips. My video card may be VGA and it may be some new technology.
The only reliable interface into a random system is vea the libarys.
Run as root and the user takes some risks. Including the posablity that the author didn't take his exact hardware into account.
The chances are slim that any given binary has a virus or trojen. They chances are equally good that the users system isn't normal. All it takes is a 3D card, a LCD display or a Pentium chip to confuse code expecting a VGA/486 when you write low level code. That can do as much damage as any virus.. some times more

I cannot believe the paranoia that some of you people have. If you are THAT concerned about your computer, don`t have it connected to anything (including the power). The game needs to be run as root because i have taken time to write quite fast low-level graphics and sound routines. I can`t stand using other peoples crappy libraries which are slow and cumbersome, when i can code low-level and access hardware directly myself, plus you don`t need coutless other libs (like most games on Linux, which is just plain infuriating trying to get all the latest versions of everything). If you don`t like it that this game is trying to be fast and efficient then don`t get it.

How can ANY true Linux user release a game that runs under SVGA (read: must be run as root) and NOT release the source code?
It's just plain ridiculous. The whole reason why Linux users don't have to worry about viruses is because we (supposedly) don't use root for day to day usage, which includes but is not limited to, playing games!

Fun game, simple, stable, complete. Would be nice if there was source code available.

Excellent; little too hard to see to maneuver properly, though.
