gettext does not make much sense at the moment as the font in game does not support international characters. I intend to wait for new Allegro which should include TrueType fonts support and do it then. But thanks for an idea. Windowed mode is easy. Just run "racer -w". I am not a native speaker so the English may be poor. :) If you are able to fix this, you are welcome.

 will you make the game support gettext so it can be localized? also.. it seems to me that english in the current version would welcome some touch-up (grammar, typo). otherwise a great game (one last rant: missing non-fullscreen mode). joe

I suggest you to start with a (D) category car and you can alter difficulty to "very easy" and game speed to -30% in settings. Then the game should be relatively easy to play - at least on racing tracks. One hint - if you are not accelerating (pressing arrow up), then your car has much better steering - a bit unrealistic :)
