Game Sheet: Zarch
(from the original archive of "The Linux Game Tome")

Description: Zarch is influenced by the classic Acorn Archimedes game. This game was also known as "Virus" on the Commodore Amiga.

In Zarch, you fly around a randomly created world, that includes water, trees, houses, fuel platforms and some sophisticated enemy fighters.

All the original Virus gameplay has not been implemented yet, but right now there are 10 progressively harder levels to play with progressively more difficult enemies. After 10 levels the game ends.

The engine looks good, but gameplay is missing still. I loved this game on the Amiga, so I look forward to the next releases :)

Some additional work and this game will be worth 5 stars...

Very slick. Gameplay is not well-balanced (killing saucers is trivial, killing fighters is nigh impossible) and the rendering can be annoying, but it's surprisingly addictive. I love the flight dynamics...pleasantly weird.

Well done. Colours should get darker with distance from the viewer. Then it would look more like Zarch on the Archimedes.

I love it, but then again im addicted to small cheesy untextured 3d games, like battleball, virtual combat, avara (a mac game), etc. definatley worth a look

Excellent, really has the look and feel of the Archimedes version (the best version IMHO) Now what would be really nice is a linux version of conqueror :) I know there is another game on the amiga which uses this engine but with multiple vehicles if anybody knows the name could they e:mail me at: [email protected] thanx

Good... but it needs mouse support! Using keys is just not the same. I used to play the acorn version for hours.. and would love to be able to play it again (my RiscPC didn't seem to want to run it well :O(

Are you talking about Zeawolf or Zeawolf 2?

The homepage and downloads seem to have disappeared, is there an alternative source?

Well, if you don't mind some time travelling, there is a source in the past. The archive.org bot seems to have archived the old page, complete with tarballs, at http://web.archive.org/web/20011204181728/http://www.nbn.com/~thom/software.html. The archives are plain tar files, despite the .gz suffix.
