cgobanFREE!
cgoban is an interface to NNGS, IGS
and other go servers, allowing
one to play go against human
opponents. NNGS runs on linux, but doesn't have as many users as IGS, which runs NT.
go is probably the deepest strategy
game ever conceived, giving both
hemispheres of your brain a real
workout. The rules are quite simple,
but it takes a lifetime to master
the game.
Chess master Lasker has been quoted
as saying that go is deeper than
chess.
There are other interfaces to the
go servers that run on unix, but
cgoban is probably the best at the
time of this writing (3/13/99).
If you need a lot of explosions to
have fun then go probably isn't for
you, but if you, for example, enjoy a
life-and-death race to see who captures
whom first, you might really like go.
